An Interview with Freddy Antonio Almeida Arenales - Transforming Spaces Through Decorative Art

We had the opportunity to work with Freddy Antonio Almeida Arenales and learn more about his talents after he transformed a wall at Marlena Design Group Studio and left us in awe with the possibilities of architectural mural painting!

Where did you begin this journey?

I am a decorative artist specializing in architectural mural painting, and my story began over 15 years ago in my home country, Colombia. There, I worked on projects for clients seeking a sophisticated and luxurious image for their homes, offices, or businesses. Today, I am blessed to continue building my story and future in this wonderful country.

Describe your style and its application.

I transform ordinary spaces into spaces filled with art through mural painting, utilizing cutting-edge techniques. My specialty is Venetian plaster, a marble-derived material, along with other decorative techniques like stone walls and lime wash. Throughout my career, I’ve aimed to be recognized for my versatility and the wide range of services I offer. I continually update my skills to stay ahead and provide the latest trends.

What is your passion and process?

Art is my passion. I love what I do and especially enjoy seeing my clients’ satisfaction with my work. My process involves creating unique wall designs using techniques such as Venetian plaster, artificial stone walls, and specialized paints like lime wash. It’s a simple process: the client selects their desired style and design, and we begin developing it.

For Venetian plaster, the wall finish is made from limestone mixed with marble and other minerals, applied in multiple layers and polished to create an illusion of depth and texture, resembling highly polished marble. Stone walls, a new trend in interior design, involve a meticulous artisanal process combining polystyrene strips, cement layers, and painting techniques to mimic the look of rock walls. Lime wash provides a beautiful, aged plaster finish, applied in various layers with brush strokes in different directions to create depth and a lovely finish.

What is your specialty?

My specialty is transforming spaces through art, applied on both interior and exterior walls to accentuate areas like the living room, fireplace, dining area, office, or any main wall in a business, restaurant, or hotel. This art can bring a natural warmth to a room or a brighter look to a bathroom.

Is there anything else you'd like to add to explain your art?

The decorative techniques I use are an art form that I have developed over many years, and I feel grateful to have the skills to bring them to life in the best way possible. I’m excited to offer a wide range of exclusive wall designs from my portfolio, which can transform any space into an incredible place to enjoy.

Keep him in mind for your next project!

Interior Designer Hilary Almas

Hilary Almas is a new interior designer based in Denver, Colorado. She graduated with a BA in Sociology and Communications from Purdue University and moved to Colorado shortly after. From there she attended Studio Institute Denver where she studied interior design.

She specializes in creating 3D floor plans that fully maximizes the use of a space. Her favorite style is Mid Century modern and is drawn to a lot of trends from the 60’s and 70’s.

Hilary has always wanted a career where she could be creative, but was discouraged to do that at a young age. During Covid, she started doing ceramics, jewelry, mugs & flower pots.

Her pottery is inspired by middle eastern pottery style. She enjoys making mugs and planters.

“I realized the passion I had for creating was needed in my career in order for me to be happy. I stumbled upon a trade school for interior design online and decided to enroll. I have found the ultimate form of functional art, designing homes!”
