Putting on anything eyelet is like the equivalent of stepping into an ice cream shop over Memorial Day weekend. It’s just starting to get warm and we’re buzzing around doing all things summer. There’s a bit of nostalgia to it too. We think back to when we first started dressing ourselves when we thought our eyelet socks and black patent leather Mary Janes looked bomb with bike shorts and long t-shirts. It’s a fabric that’s got built in air conditioning, with just a hint of skin peeking through that’s not yet tan. (Spray tan, take care of your skin!)
The cotton or linen fabric is as fresh and crisp as lemon sorbet that we’ve been craving since the wool and flannel filled days of winter. The best part is that it’s not limited to just blouses or dresses. Try an eyelet sneaker with a navy striped three-quarter length tube dress. A perforated Stella McCartney bag with cuffed dark rinse jeans and a blazer never felt more meant to be.
If home décor is more up your alley, pair sheets with ultra-feminine embroidered bedding or mellow it out with a big, buffalo plaid duvet in neutral tans or browns. Fill an eyelet-decorated bowl with cotton balls on your vanity or with veggies and hummus while you’re watching Dirty Dancing.
No matter your taste, eyelet can serve as the ultimate cherry-on-top addition to your outfit or home.
