The summers of the Olympic Games are the most exciting summers. Every TV in every bar is tuned to Ashton Eaton, Simone Biles and Michael Phelps. We fall asleep with the dulcet tones of Bob Costas’ voice in our ears. For two and a half weeks there is 24/7 motivation and inspiration to get better and stronger in our workouts and we know we aren’t the only ones who will have Team USA’s theme song, “Live Forever” by The Band Perry on our running playlist. This election year, we will take a break from our country seemingly tearing itself apart from the inside out and we will all unite and cheer for the athletes of the USA in Rio.
When we think about these athletes, we think of strength, streamlined power and grace. We don’t imagine they waste any energy, there’s nothing frivolous or unused in their mission to be the best. We can translate their focused energy into a sporty interior, with clean lines, athletic stripes and smooth sturdy leather.
There are also so many ways to incorporate athletic wear into a wardrobe. Designers know how on-the-go our lifestyles are now. We like versatile pieces to wear from coffee with a friend to the gym without looking like a rumpled laundry bag. We want durable duffel bags that we can comfortably sling over our shoulders during the commute to work and that will protect our work duds if we’re caught in a surprise thunderstorm on the track.
