When Dorothy clicked her ruby-slippered heels together, she had seen enough of the world, real or imagined, and wanted nothing more than to go home. Sure, Kansas is great and all, but there have got to be some parts of her adventures she wished she could have taken with her. A section of the yellow brick road here, a sliver of the Emerald City there, why not?
We at MDG are not alone when sometimes we wish we could click our heels together and be anywhere but home. When that is close to impossible, why not play a little make believe ourselves? If we add enough vacation home elements to our every day homes, we're practically on vacation. Right?
First, we need some luxe furniture pieces. A statement bed or a chair suspended from the ceiling are just enough of a break from the ordinary.
Textiles, or textile-inspired treasures sprinkled around the room add a richness to your home, especially in bold colors and bohemian patterns. Mix and match any way you want from casually coordinated to happily chaotic.
With a vacation home, it's all about the details, big or small. Add a loud wallpaper in an unexpected place or hang a tapestry instead of framed art.
Sometimes, you really have to blur the lines between inside and outside. Bring in some flowers and plants, some in-or-out furniture, or, if you've no green thumb, a fresh-smelling candle.
Lastly, it's not a stayvacation without an adventure. Keep supplies handy no matter where the day takes you, whether you're looking for a workout, some pool-side tunes, or inspiration.
