Sangria Sunset

June 2, 2016 Guest User

Aside from our Memorial Day barbeque pool parties this past weekend, one could argue that the quintessential summer moment is on a hike and looking out over a vast desert plain. The sun is hot on the backs of our necks as it’s been baking the red earth laid out in front of us. We can’t drink enough water and it’s a little too lukewarm anyway, but we’re surrounded by that very particular dusty green smell of desert sage.

The sun sinks lower as we make our way home. Our skin seems to hold the sun’s warmth for hours after, and the sky turns the colors of rainbow sherbet. It’s bigger out here, the sky, out west.

We start itching for cinnamon-spiced sangria and tortilla chips with smoky salsa. We don’t need much by way of entertainment this time of year, under woven lanterns, when it’s the relaxing hours. All we need are bright white linen tee shirts and handmade tumblers for our drinks, our bottom lips pressed against the natural grit.

For a later cocktail party, we have dresses in earthy colors with warm leather accents, or khaki shirtdresses with a hint of leopard print peeking out. Our sun kissed glow is helped along by our favorite bronzer/blush combo (and maybe the sangria.)

Back at home we pad across color-drenched woven rugs and light a fresh candle before sinking into soft white sheets, blissful with the realization that in the morning we can do it all again.

Eyelet You Win

May 5, 2016 Guest User

Putting on anything eyelet is like the equivalent of stepping into an ice cream shop over Memorial Day weekend. It’s just starting to get warm and we’re buzzing around doing all things summer. There’s a bit of nostalgia to it too. We think back to when we first started dressing ourselves when we thought our eyelet socks and black patent leather Mary Janes looked bomb with bike shorts and long t-shirts. It’s a fabric that’s got built in air conditioning, with just a hint of skin peeking through that’s not yet tan. (Spray tan, take care of your skin!)

The cotton or linen fabric is as fresh and crisp as lemon sorbet that we’ve been craving since the wool and flannel filled days of winter. The best part is that it’s not limited to just blouses or dresses. Try an eyelet sneaker with a navy striped three-quarter length tube dress. A perforated Stella McCartney bag with cuffed dark rinse jeans and a blazer never felt more meant to be.

If home décor is more up your alley, pair sheets with ultra-feminine embroidered bedding or mellow it out with a big, buffalo plaid duvet in neutral tans or browns. Fill an eyelet-decorated bowl with cotton balls on your vanity or with veggies and hummus while you’re watching Dirty Dancing.

No matter your taste, eyelet can serve as the ultimate cherry-on-top addition to your outfit or home.
